Let me thank you all once again for all the lovely birthdaywishes, shout outs, tweets and messages honoring my born day. I can’t shareenough how fantastic the entire weekend turned out. I know the pictures fromthe post recapping my weekend weren’t the best but I’m still learning my camera and didn’tdive the operator much direction. I was busy being in the moment and soaking upthe love from those who came out to celebrate me.

Today Ruth Chris sent me an email for a Valentine’s Day dinner. The dining experience isphenomenal but I won’t be revisiting again this soon. If you are looking for aplace to celebrate something special soon. I am recommending this restaurant. Hope this short add will result in adiscount. No harm in trying right?

It’s really late but I wanted to get a quick post in. Ihave a BIG project in the works. Not for the blog. I know I really need to domore with it. one reason is I don’t want to distract you from my sporadicoutfit posts and I really like that some of you actually read my writing. Y’allknow how to make a girl happy.

No this is an opportunity that ONLY GOD could haveorchestrated!!!!!!! I’m asking that you pray for me for wisdom, guidance andpeace. I’ve stepped out on faith because I believe that I’m ready to doextraordinary things when God ordained doors open. God has been doing so muchin my life it would take a few posts to catch you up. I’m still fellowshippingwith HIM but recently I’m learning more to be still while listening to instructionand then promptly obeying. Resulting in blessings raining daily.

Ha haaa it is raining outside right now and I just tweetedlast week that I am expecting an abundance of rain from heaven. Talk aboutfigurative language (we are discussing this in class this week). It hope thatyou are in a place of greatness as well. If not, keep holding on. It’s good toknow that when God does anything; He is the only one that can undo it.

A Recap of My Birthday Weekend

Hello Divamoms & Divas,

Thank you all so much for making my 26^th birthday(yes, I’m the same age as last year!!) such a memorable weekend. I was shown so much love and I’m forevergrateful to God for giving me life, for sending me great friends, a loving familyand this blog.

Blogging has opened the door for me to meet some wonderfulladies here in South Florida. Schevashea of Curves and Confidence joined me fordinner along with Ashley of A SassyWoman and Roodlyn of Supermom Place. Both Ashley and Schevashea dedicated posts tomy birthday here and here. These ladies are like girlfriends I’ve known for a lifetime. Ilook forward to getting to know them better and exploring the city.

Dinner was superb. The staff at Ruth Chris renderedexcellent service (there was 21 people in my party) and I’ll be sure to return in the near future. Every momentfrom beginning to end will forever be etched in my heart. Even the non arrivalof the dress I ordered from JcPenney. I showed it to a few girlfriends and oneguy. We were thinking it was a win based on the picture. Even the bestie Qtexted and said I was going to be showing off my curves.

Well not quite :( The dress never arrived whichwas a blessing in disguise. I’m ready to get my monies back yesterday!! I wentshopping for a dress but didn’t find anything. I did get 4 pairs of shoes ( twofrom Zara and two from Aldo), a handbag from Zara and a t-shirt, anothert-shirt from H&M and a ring, gift cards and get this……………….. a beautifulred dress (thanks KP!!).

Yep God sent me my heart’s desire anyway. I’ll be wearing mynew item soon to church and I couldn’t be happier. Truly words can’t express the joy I feltbeing surrounded by people who cared enough about me to travel over an hour andtake time from their families to spend an evening with me. There was muchlater, good food, wine and heartfelt words spoken about me that almost made mecry. I do have one more BIG celebration planned with the besties. Staytuned for an extended partay celebrating me.

It's My Birthday!

Thankful to see another year. Today marks the beginning for me to become a more excellent me. Thank you all for the well wishes via Facebook and Twitter and here on the blog. This journey is more enriched because of you. In case you were curious, I'm 26 AGAIN today, lolol!

I hope the start of 2012 has beeneverything you’ve anticipated.

I really enjoyed the holidays withKT. My mom didn’t come to visit thisyear and that was hard but I resolved to celebrate, relax and read.

That is exactly what I did. I read anovel a day for 4 days. I was poolside. I ate well. Fellowshipped with extendedfamily and good friends. Cooked. Ate. Shopped for KT. He even got a me a gift.How hot are these Jessica Simpsons heels?

I always allow KT to buy me a gift for the holidays. He did really good, yes? I've worn them to church two weekends in a row. Bishop Shipman commented on them. They are certainly a conversation starter.

I have so much to share with youall. I’ve been spending time in prayer. Mentally preparing for some MAJORchanges to occur in my life. The end of last year I learned a bit more aboutwhat I want in a relationship and love. Yeah LOVE. I’m always thinking of thescene in Love Jones when they Isaish Washington (forgive me for not rememberinghis character’s name) comments about everyone wants to be in love but no one istalking about how to say there. Y’all know I tried to find the clip on YouTube J

What I do know is I’m feeling likethe sky is the limit this year if I stay grounded and connected to the HeavenlyFather. I'm started aerobics last night night at my church which includes Zumba. I'm enjoying the hair growth journey. My heart is open for new friendships and maybe even a loving relationship. So stay tuned.

I received my package about 3 daysbefore Christmas. Here is what it included:

Hello Divamoms & Divas,

Areyou ready for Christmas? Or did you run out today to do some last minuteshopping? Sorry I didn’t post a tune for you yesterday. We had a long day atwork and from there I went straight to volunteering at a home that servesfamilies who are away from home for orthopedic surgery. The families are ableto stay for free for an extended period and just relax and focus onrehabilitation.

Todaywas shopping day. I’m always out the day or so before Christmas. Why? I don’tput a lot of emphasis on having anything under my tree which I just put up aweek ago. I do purchase things for KT but it usually the same things videogames, books, clothes and food, shelter, band fees, transportation…ok so I wentthere. LOLOL :)

Atthe moment I can’t locate my camera and I have a look I really want to sharefrom work this week. Yesterday was my last day for the next two weeks. As soonas it is located I’ll post it for you. It falls into the festive category.Right now I’m off to wrap gifts and read a novel. I checked about 6 books forthe break and ordered a case and light for my Kindle. Yep I’m a divaNERDmom.

My intentions were to do an outfit post of today's festive look. I even tweeted a sneak peek but umm I forgot to mail off my blogger secret Santa package so I was scrambling after church tonight to get the package together. I'll get the post up by Friday since it will be the start of my winter break. #LifeofaTeacher

Tomorrow we are volunteering to feed the homeless. It is our last gift as a family to someone in need. I want to instill in my son the true meaning of this holiday and that's to celebrate the birth of CHRIST and the unmatched gift given to the world.

I had a rough day at work today. I won't go into details on the post. I want to thank each of you who reached out to me on Facebook. The Serenity Prayer will carry me through this week. Sometimes we need to keep it simple. With that being said, I don't want to lose my joy and ruin the festiveness of this joyous occasion.

Christ wasn't born to provide me, you, the world with joy only during the month of December or when the day was difficult although I am truly grateful that His joy is available. He came to provide me, you, the world peace and joy 180 days of each year.

I can’t sign off without posting the 7^th day ofChristmas song. Today I took my laptopto work and played some tunes for the kids. There was a time I would play musicevery day all day really low and the kids loved it. I’m not sure why I stoppedbut today a kid asked if I would so more often. I plan to load some more jazzand classical music in a playlist for them. I will never deprive them ofanything that will enhance the learning environment and experience. Festive Looks on the 8th Day of Christmas

Hello Divamoms & Divas,

Today KT and I finally put up ourCharlie Brown tree and it is absolutely beautiful. Decorating with my son keepsus focused on the true meaning of Christmas which for us is Christ centered,family, love and quality time.

I also spent the day with my twolittle sisters after church. I cooked and we watched Sex and the City. Notexactly Christmas centered but they didn’t want to join me in catching up onold episodes of my favorite tv series Friday Night Lights.

Today has been memorable. I can’t believewe are almost in 2012 and I’ll be celebrating another 26^th birthday.This is my blog and I can be any age in my head!

I wanted to share a few pictures oftwo tops I found last year at the local Goodwill after the holidays. Thesweater only gets worn to church. Bishop keeps is really cold. Otherwise, I fallout from a heat stroke. Despite it being for a colder climate it is a gem.

The embroidered kinda like a sweatshirttop was worn to work Friday. I wanted to look festive for our holiday luncheon.I don’t do old men Christmas sweaters so this thrifted top was the next bestchoice. These two looks prove dressingfestive for the holiday doesn’t have to break your bank or set you back. Collectivelymy mom probably paid less than $6 for both of these with her discount. So hitthose thrift stores and get all dolled up for those holiday parties.

Hello divamoms & divas,

How was your weekend? Saturday nightI went to a Christmas party to raise money for scholarships. No pictures. Todaywas church and the kid cooked a delicious pot of spaghetti, corn on the cob andgarlic bread. I’m so proud to be his mom. I wore to church today. It seems theonly time I can get in a blog photo shoot is after service. I wish we had moretime but my life feels busier than when I as in grad school.

Please continue to pray for meregarding reenrolling. I’m still having a difficult time not being in school. Honestly,I’m been in failure mode. I really want to complete my degree. Although some ofthe circumstances are out of my hand, I still feel like I’ve got to find a way tomake it happen when what I really need to do is focus on my immediate tasks andopportunities while allowing GOD to fulfill His promise.

In addition to allowing the hair I wasborn with find its way back onto my head I’ve been wearing my glasses more. Iknow this is your first time seeing me in them. Mostly because I don’t feelcomfy in them but when I wear them folks are always complimenting me. Today inchurch I was pulled aside and told I look like a professor. Of course, I cheesedreally hard.

blue + grey & my hair today

Hello divamoms & divas,

I’m so glad you haven’t unsubscribed.I have so much to update you on and will try not to do it all in one post. KTand I haven’t taken photos for an outfit post in weeks. Don’t worry I haven’tbeen struck by the uncreative bug. The timing has been my biggest hindrance. Gettingmy son to photograph me before school will make me late for work. I’m one ofthose people who arrive at the requiredhour. After work it is too dark although I could take them in the school. Problemwith that is after teaching 5 periods and tutoring afterschool I am in no moodto touch retouch my makeup or put my heels back on for pictures. So bear withme on the outfits but keep coming back because I have plans to write more from the heart.

I wore this to church today. There’snothing amazing about the look except the tights (purchased 2 years or more agoat Target) and my favorite & ONLY pair of Michael Kors shoes. These shoesare dazzling. I had two people at church ask me to leave them when I leftservice today. Ummmm no ma’am these were so splurge worthy.

Let me thank you all for theencouragement on growing out my hair. I’ll be honest and say I’m not fond ofthese pictures. I am not accustomed to seeing myself with hair and I look ‘funny’…Idon’t know different. I actually think I look better in person. How does thesaying go? A picture never lies. Well these do, lolol because I really lookmuch better face to face. For the first time in my natural journey I like myTWA (teeny weeny afro). This transitionis much better than others I’ve had. Yeah, I’ve been natural on and off foryears with both long and short hair.

I’ve been reading so many blogswhich is why I haven’t been writing. I felt it is necessary to learn to carefor my hair this time around if I am serious about a growing healthy wellmoisturized head of hair. So these photos mark one month. I co wash once perweek and keep my hair spritzed with jojoba oil, extra virgin olive oil, extravirgin coconut oil & water and seal with EVCO. My leave in conditioner isCantu Shea Butter and I co-wash with Suave almond and shea butter conditioner. Ireally like to Shea Moisture’s Curly Smoothie as my daily moisturizer becauseit makes my hair curly tightly and hides the awkwardness of the length. I can’twait until I can two strand twist it again. This process is teaching me patience! As Imentioned in an earlier post this won’t become a hair blog but I’ll keep youall updated.

Nothing beats being in church to beuplifted, encouraged and motivated to keep striving for GOD’S best life alreadyplanned out for me. Hearing the choir sing Fred Hammond’s Living Word today wasinspiring. The song is an oldie but goodie that reminds me of why December isthe most wonderful time of the year. Christ was born J.

On A HAIR Mission

Happy Sunday Divamoms & Divas,

I won't apologize for not posting. I've been relaxing, enjoying KT, working, and reading a great deal. I believe your visit here is so much better when I give you quality rather than quantity. Plus I want to share some personal things that I've been pondering and praying about. Or should I say some lessons I've learned and am learning as I continue to travel this road called life dealing with the good & bad. I'm looking forward to the Thanksgiving break from work and seeing my family. What are your plans?

I wanted to share with you in case you don't follow me on Twitter that I recently made the decision to grow out my brush cut. I know how much many of you love it on me. I do too. Truth is I've been rocking this cut for almost 3 years and I in need of a change. I'm actually prepping myself to move towards consuming only chicken, fish and turkey. That's another blog post and I hope my best Q isn't reading this :).

So instead of posting here on my blog, I've been educating myself about natural hair. SERIOUSLY! I have spent hours on YouTube and reading natural hair blogs. I even joined a forum. I've been natural for many years on and off. I've worn my hair bald, brush cut, fro, long in a puff because I didn't know how to care for long natural tresses, braided and two strand twisted.

Yesterday I was looking through old photos for motivation to take this journey. I pulled out photos where I liked the way I looked with mid length/longer natural hair. Others not so much. This is where the doubt comes in that I can let it go and grow. I hate the in-between stage. I don't like the pull back look with a hand-band on me and I'm too old for two strand twists on a fro (not sure how to explain this).

My mom is natural and my best returned to the community as well as fellow blogger Roodlyn at www.supermomplace.com. The support is there. I'm working on learning my hair and becoming a better divamom on the inside as the outside changes. I'm not sure how much I'll share on my blog. I don't want to talk products and try and re-teach what's already out there. Maybe the pictures of the journey? Let me know your thoughts.

Ihope that you had a terrific Thursday. This entire week has been busy for me. Iwork four days a week after school & this week my church was hosting ourannual Fall Conference. We had a great time of praise, worship and fellowship. Our theme was Breakthrough. It is my desire that I continue to move beyond any limitations in my life to walk in my destiny. Amen? I can’t imagine anything worse than not living your best life(in my Joyce Meyer voice).

We’vebeen at school today since 8 ish this morning. Tonight KT had a band concert tohonor Veterans. I must admit this was one of the best concerts I’ve attended atTMS. I’m so proud of my photographer, musician and honor roll achieving son!

Iwasn’t going to post this outfit because I didn’t really like it myself. Lookingdown at the skirt from my p.o.v. it appeared the skirt was big and bulky. I’ve wornthis skirt before here. Can I just confess to you that I love this top? If onlyZara would markdown a few more cute tops so I can continue to remix my wardrobewithout spending much. This shirt was less than $10 = win.

AfterKT took the photos I decided that I really liked the look. I wanted to dress abit more relaxed since I knew I wouldn’t have time to go home and change forthe concert. A student asked me if I was in love with Cheetahs today. At firstI was kinda confused O_o. This shirt isn’t cheetah print (is it?) If you know mystudents they say some crazzzyyy things. But she was referring to my apparentneed to wear some type of animal print once a week. But she did say I looked nice. Guess that makes it a win.

BeforeI got I just want to say this necklace is uh-maz-ing. Yep I typed uh-maz-ing. Ipaid $8 for this at a thrift sale to benefit some charity this summer and itwas one of the best decisions I’ve made looking for jewelry. I see statement necklacesin magazines that are so expensive and I always say to self: “Self, you canfind this at a local thrift store.”

Iknew this title would pique your interest. There will be absolutely no postingof birds today; although I do take pictures of the birds and ducks that hangout in my apartment complex. Some of the ducks will chase you for food. Thishas happened to KT and I on two occasions. AndI assure you it was not funny.

Ititled this post as such because of the color and the bird on my cardigan. Blueis one of my favorite colors. The day I took the photos the weather wasperfect. After viewing them in PhotoScape (thanks Eboni) I decided not to editthem. What you see is what my wonderful 12 year old son took with my CanonPowershot. He's been hounding me lately to be sure to give him credit for the photos taken and posted here.

I wanted to show you all what I woreto see Kevin Hart at the Improv. I found this blazer thrifting and the shirt atZara. I’m wearing one of my favorite pair of jeans from NY & Co. I loveeverything about them. The fit. The length. The wash. They can be dressed up ordown. I usually dress them up with heels as you see pictured here.

Before I go I do want to ask aquestion. Did you read Reiko’s post here? I also read a post from one of myfavorite mommy bloggers Alinka here and it got me to thinking. I started wondering what are your thoughtsabout these two issues? Do leave a comment!!

Am I really driven by all thefashion blogs and magazines I read? Truth? Yes I am. I want to always be onpoint and look fabulous. I want readers to stop by my blog and comment (more onwhat I’ve written about than my outfit). I want someone to recognize that I’m adecent writer and invite me to work for them doing something great that payswell.

Reality is I’m an amateur blogger. Adecent writer and my camera is currently jacked up. I’m not doing this to makemoney. You must decide what your purpose and motivation is behind blogging orany other activity you commit to. I shouldn’t compare my blog with anyone elseor myself to anyone else in any category. We are individuals and that’s makesthe WWW so inviting. No two people have to create, maintain and write for acookie cutter blog.

I subscribe to the blogs that I readfor the fashion but there are other reasons. I evenfollow blogs of individuals who wear Loubertin’s every other day and otherblogs I stalk but never post a comment.

I’m just saying that I don’t go tobed mad that I ain’t walking in their stilletoes! Am I a confessedshopalcholic? Yeppers but I’ve had to cut back because my check has been cutand there are way more important things to do. One valuable lesson blogging hastaught me (because I don’t want this to be a negative post) is recycle,recycle, recycle and thrift. Do I really need another pair of Jessica Simpsonshoes tomorrow?

I’ve never been a creativeindividual but blogging has helped me tremendously in this area. I just want toencourage those of you who think you aren’t up to par to do YOU and YOU only. Writeand someone will read. They may not comment but trust that if you are doingwhat you love with the gift and talent GOD has given you, He is allowing you toreach the 1 or 2 or 300 individuals you are assigned to “minister” to.

Let’s not allow the world ofblogging to stir up feelings of jealously, inadequacy and longing for things ofthis world. If you read your Bible you’ll know that our worldly goods willsomeday hold no value. OnSunday I had the pleasure of sharing in a ladies brunch hosted by Ashley of ASassyWoman.com.We meet at a quaint little spot in Miramar, Fl called Elle’s. Let me say howhonored I was to be invited. Initially I thought it was for bloggers so I washesitant to attend. Yes I have a blog. Yes that would make me a blogger but I’malways telling some of the wonderful fashionistas I mingle with here with onthe web and via Twitter that I’m not a realfashion blogger. I think of myself as a writer who enjoys a deep lovefor fashion while I share my heart and thoughts with you my loyal readers.

Okback to the brunch….so the event brought together women of with a wealth ofvalue from our ages, to our experiences to our careers. It was a memorable timein my life to sit among strong women fellowshipping and building newfriendships. Simply put it was perfect!Except for the prizes that I didn’t win. Ashley planned an ice breaker toassist us with getting to know each other and two games. The service at Elle’swas amazing. My waiter was a cute little Cuban guy (y’all know I have a thangfor Latin men but shhhhh don’t tell) and he rendered supreme service. Too bad Idon’t remember his name and I didn’t get a photo of him.

Thehighlight of the event was finally meeting Ashley, Creator of A Sassy Woman andSchevashea, Creator of Curves and Confidence. Schevashea entered the room andgreeted me as if I were already a good girlfriend she hadn’t seen in months. I’mlooking forward to getting to know these ladies better and venturing furtherdown South for other excursions that must include shopping andthrifiting.

I hope today is a terrific Thursdayfor you. I’m excited about my night. My “other” mom & I are going to theImprov to see Kevin Hart. I haven’t really watched any of his performances ontv so I’m looking forward to getting out even though I have to work tomorrow. Let’scross our fingers that he’s funny and I get in some much needed laughs. I needto release some of these work concerns.

Lately I’ve been a bit irritatedwith what education means today. You may not have ever entertained any of thethoughts I’m about to share but I have and I need to vent. What better place todo it than on my blog with supportive readers. HINT: I really hope you will be J

I realize teaching isn’t aboutsaving the world but shaping lives and encouraging each student to become hisor her very best self. One of my problems is we (the educational system andthose who work in it) are lying to most of our kids as a whole. We’ve taken onthis mentality that every child can succeed (they can) and that we shouldn’tcrush anyone’s hopes or dreams. Yet I often ask why are we agreeing 7^thgrader Sam can become a doctor when he can’t read or 8^th grader Shayladoesn’t know her multiplication tables. THEY CAN IF THEY HAVE BASIC SKILLS TOBUILD ON TO ACQUIRE MORE COMPLEX SKILLS. Yes I’m screaming.

There are instances where we need todraw the line. Before you unfollow my blog keep reading. This doesn’t mean I willtell ANY student EVER that he or she doesn’t have the ability to become acontributing citizen to society. What I do find myself doing is keeping itreal. I share stories about kids not getting into college because they couldn’tpass the math entrance exam. We teach and allow our students to test with a calculator.I know students who can’t use the calculator appropriately because they don’tknow the math steps. I also know some colleges don’t allow the use of a calculator on the entranceexam. Why don’t our students know this?

Let me give you an example. I’veseen regular educational tracked students placed in an inclusion class and theydon’t need to be there because the student is either being held back or singledout because they are achieving faster than a student with more needs. This canbe the result of a teacher who isn’t willing to have multiple assignments inthe class (too much work for some) or the kid becoming comfortable with havingto perform at a lower ability and earning an easy grade that he or she becomecomplacent.

I am all for an inclusive education but we need to look at each student’s academicability and attempt to group them in close range. We also need to respect the recommendationsof the teacher. If you don’t think the teacher know his or her students shameon you for allowing them to be over children every day! There is no reason to schedulea nonreader (yes we have nonreaders in middle school) with a student who readsat or above grade level because he or she isn’t successful on the FCAT. There Ityped it! All the levels on the test are grouped together. This one piece ofdata is the determining factor for so many things regarding a student’slearning track.

The other issue I’m frustrated withis our willingness to play hush hush with parents. Tell them the truth. Findout what you are working with and make decisions from there. Don’t assume everychild in a single parent home has a guardian who is too busy to support you. Don’tassume every child living in a gated community being dropped off and picked upby a parent is brilliant. Don’t assume a parent knows his child is beingdisrespectful. Don’t assume all children of a teacher are geniuses. Don’t beafraid to suggest to a parent to request a different academic setting for achild if any of the above things are of concern.

I see kids daily who are hungry for knowledge.They want ot become better readers and writers and learn math. there are somany dynamics that can hinder them. Teachers need to be prepared to deal withthose things or at least be able to identify concerns and refer the child to aguidance counselor. Case in point, I get really pissed when I see too manyAfrican American & Hispanic students kicked out of class.

I’m not saying other ethnicities don’thave issues but we tend to be the poster children for everything wrong and itgets magnified. Instead of saying Jose or Juan or NyShakira or Alfred is justplain lazy, dumb and unmotivated ask the kid what’s up. Most of the time theywill tell you. Offer them the opportunity to speak with a guidance counselor orsomeone the campus they trust. Set a time limit and get that child back inclass. Truth is if you did that as a teacher you should pack up and look for ajob because no instructional time is to be waster. Yet we really are wasting dayafter day after day when a child sits in class physically but isnt’ engagedmentally.

I could go on and on about how tofix them. And yes I know I made the problem seem simple to solve. They aren’t!Our educational system is so wack!!!!! Yep, I wrote this too. I just believethat we can fix what is broken one teacher, one child, one classroom at a time.I’m thinking I should do a workshop entitled Lies My Child’s School Tells Me. UgghhhL

Ithas been a busy week for me. I made a decision to work 4 out of 5 work daysafter school and I am bone tired! I don’treally have a reason for making this decision that is immediate. I don’t needto be shopping (although I really want to). I want to get KT a few extra thingsfor school and I’d like to have some summer monies.

Truthis who knows what next month holds besides the all knowing GOD? I really don’t need to do so much but like everyone inthese tough times I keep telling myself I need the money. Yawn…NOT really if itwill have be so tired I can’t do anything when I get home but hit the showerand become a couch potato, lol.

Haveyou ever taken on additional projects that you knew didn't fit into yourschedule and regretted it? A few days ago I was reading about how we can takeon so much that we can wear ourselves thin. This makes me consider that I shouldmake it a habit to really determine through prayer and quiet time what God doesn’twant me to do just as well as seeking His will for my life.

Sometimesgood intention cause more harm than good. We can get so caught up in attemptingto do good or stirve to reach a certain goal in life that we end up missing thebest GOD has lined up for us because we are distracted chasing the good.

Pardon me for bragging again but y’all should know bynow that I’m Rainbow Bright’s long lost sister. I don’t care what the seasonalrules say, give me color and I’m transported to a world much like the one WillyWonka resides in. Yes, I know this season’s Fall trends include color so I’mmeeting the expectations (tips hat to self).

I shared these pants on Twitter about 2 months ago. Whydid it take me so long to wear them? My butt appeared a bit too LARGEin them when I initially found them during a thrifting excursion. But I lovedthem from the day I paid less than $5 bucks for them and have played dress upwith them on a few occasions trying to figure out how I wanted to wear them.

This lightweight cotton top that’s really old from OldNavy for me was perfect. A black & white color combos is timeless andstripes are chic. This little handbag was a Goodwill treasure find as well. Ididn’t want to be matchy matchy. That’s one habit blogging has helped me break.

Initially I wanted to wear some black Paisley Targetpumps but my new manicure needed to be displayed. I’m in love with this newcolor Fatigued (a mixture of grey and army green)I picked up at Target by Sonia Kashuk. Prior to trying this color I only owned hermakeup brushes. I’ll be watching her Fall colors to go on sale to add to mycollection. Yea, I’m a nail polish junkie too but on a budget. So the MichaelKor’s heels won.

a lesson from a kid's movie

I’vebeen writing a lot about being successful and not quitting. I’m always looking to hear from GOD in the most unexpected way. That’s howHe works. We expect the expected and God works things out in a way thatconfounds the wise or speaks to us in a way that we often times miss because weare tuned in to the typical things to hear His voice.

Last night, KTwas watching Spirit – Stallion of the Cimarrion last night. I love watchingmovies with him especially Dreamworks flicks. Well the little guy fell asleepand I kept watching. Actually ended up crying halfway through the movie. I’venever seen a horse so determined. It was as if Spirit was reminding me of thespirit of perseverance God has placed inside of me to hold fast and tight to mydreams and His promises. I plan to.

Iknow that my freedom to be who He created me to be will someday manifest. WhatI must do is set myself to not be broken, captured by man’s inability to believein my greatness and becoming gridlocked in challenges. Every problem has asolution. Just ask Spirit J

LPD: little purple dress

Hello divamoms & divas,

I hope you had a good work week. I was off on Thursday. Instead of sleeping in my son and I attended a luncheon hosted by the Urban League. It was a major fundraiser to support the Nulites program. Nulites is a nationwide youth program founded on the premises that our young people are our most valuable resources. You can read more about the program here.

The was event was hosted by Tamaron Hall and the keynote speaker was Jeff Johnson from msnbc. It was such a dynamic event. I’ll post a picture or two soon. My son wasn’t able to get a photo with him unfortunately. I was a bit disappointed but chalked it up to it not being our moment. I was just delighted that we were able to hear other Nuliters share their personal stories and JJ encourage our middle and high schoolers to dream enormous dreams. It was even televised!! Talk about being in the right place at the right time. I’m a single mom whose money isn’t BIG enough at the moment to attend an event where either of these successful African Americans may be the shining starts of the evening but because some thought of my family & extended an invitation for us to become a part of a life changing organization, we were a part of history. Blessed we are.

I didn’t wear this dress to the event but it would have been appropriate don’t cha think? Wore this to work. I’ve worn this dress only a few times but this has been my favorite look so far. The flower was a $5 addition from H&M. The dress is a Target win. Shoes are Steve Madden via Nordstrom and the Nine West handbag is a really old birthday gift from the Big sister. Call me Ms. Violet, lol.

3. The mind reallyis a battlefield and can only be conquered with the Word of God - whichcontains certified promises for my life and positive thoughts.

4. Beingdisconnected from Twitter & Facebook has afforded me the opportunity to bewith me. I’m still learning about me and who I am and who I desire to be.

5. I’m not too oldor to saved to bump a bit of hip-hop and practice having swag in front of themirror. Laughing at myself is really funny J.

6. Being in theright place at the right time with the right people will afford meopportunities money, degrees and prestige can only grant others because theylack GOD’s favor.

No Excuses: You can do what you love to do.

Hello divamoms & divas,

I wore this to churchlast Sunday and I’m just getting around to posting. I can’t say that I’ve beenextremely busy with me not being in school. I’ve been spending time with GODbuilding my faith. Today I logged onto my computer and cried. My graduateprogram of study is on my desktop. My heart skipped a beat. I clicked on it.Scanned it, calculated in my head how quickly I can get the remainder of mycourses knocked out and just cried. I realize that being delayed doesn’t meandenial. I just feel frustration because I haven’t completed the task but I wantto. I want to more than I can express to you in words. That’s wild because Ilove words.

Instead of going tothat place of feeling sorry for myself, I begin to think about the promises ofGOD. I begin to speak inwardly that I’m too close to the finish line to throwup my hands in exasperation and say forget it. I was reminded of a devotion Iread last week. The devotion talked about EXCUSES that we offer for notpursuing the dream GOD has given us. Let me share a bit with you:

Excuse: “Dreams don’t come true for ordinary people like me.”

Truth: You don’t have to be aworld figure to have a dream. Thepursuit of a dream is what makes the different between ordinary andextraordinary people. Ordinary people live extraordinary lives when they followtheir dream. A God-given dream will motivate you to make important changes inyour life.

Excuse: “If the dream isn’t big it’s not worth pursuing.”

Truth: Size doesn’t determinesignificance.

Excuse: “Now is not the right time to pursue my dream.”

Truth: Permission to pursue your dream comes from two sources: God andyourself. Novelist George Eliot said, “It’s never too late to become what youmight have been.”

After reading this Iwrote WOW on the page. I am xx years old (a woman nevertells her age..giggles)and my mother still reminds me to this day that I was born for greatness. Idon’t mean being famous, well known, rich or dressed in designer duds. I’mreferring to becoming the woman GOD fashioned me to become before my parentsknew me. I was born to do great things in my community and for children whohaven’t been told how valuable, smart and wonderful they are. Right now I dothis from my classroom but someday….someday I’ll walk into my destiny of beinga forced to be reckoned with when I’m doing what I love to do without thepolitical red tape that has kept our children being left behind.

Yes it is true that Idon’t have the money to continue my studies at this moment but someday I will!!So while in my waiting room, I am learning to keep a positive attitude,research careers in the new path I’m pursing, using my extra free time to dothings with KT, contribute more to the youth community organization my son andI are involved with and some days sit in silence and listen to my heart andkeep myself encouraged.

In that moment I knewGOD was encouraging me to keep dreaming the BIG dreams that I could neveraccomplish on my own. They will manifest at the right time. I am beingdeveloped for greatness!

I hope after you readthis you grab a hold of the dream(s) you’ve buried and place them where you canbe reminded of them daily. Trust GOD. Dismiss the excuses. Use the time in thewaiting room for growth so that when you arrive at the next level there’s nostopping you.

Golden Shorts Girl

Hello divamoms & divas,

I wanted to do something different from my normal and expected work weekly work look. I mentioned after wearing these shorts this summer to my mom's graduation dinner that I wanted to wear remix these shorts and make them appropriate for work. Initially, I wasn't sure but decided to wear them since I was dressed and would decide if I would go this route again after I got unsolicited feedback from some of my colleagues.

I'm usually not one who wears something based on another individual's opinion but because teaching gets such a bad rep, most teachers dress like they really don't care and I have chicken legs (giggles) the response was kinda important to me. All went well and you can expect to see me wearing some of my other thrifted shorts in the future.

White After Labor Day

Hello divamoms and divas. I do realize some ofyou aren’t moms but I’m so grateful you are here with me. Hope you had aproductive week. I’m exhausted. I did something every day after work with the exceptionof Monday. Kept me busy but I’m really sleepy. But I couldn’t call it a nightwithout posting and scheduling upcoming post.

I’m not one to go on andon about labels and prices since I shop every where especially Goodwill. Thistime I gotta share with you the deal in putting this look together. I wasreading one of my many fashion magazines and really wanted to wear these whitepants/jeans.

I know some of you aresticklers for the NO white after Labor Day rulebut all the magazines I’ve read with fashion advice says GO for it! I did. Besides, I live in South Floridaand as of today it is still hot.

GAP served these bottomsup to me a few months ago for {inserts drum roll here} $12. Yep, not a typo!Plus I donated socks to some cause (sorry I can’t remember) and received a cardfor a FREEyear subscription to LUCKY magazine which I am benefiting from. The top is soold. I got it at Wal-mart when NormaKamili was designing a special line for their stores. Now that’s old. Anyone remember what year that was? The cardigan is aTarget clearance find. I know you all are saying the nextpost I share about a wedding should be me announcing the day of mine right? Notyet, lol. Saturday I shared in Sasha and John’s special day.

Let me just tell you that I wasgoing to wear this dress but was blessed with this one:

The picture of the bride, groom and I didn't come out very well. I've included one of my road girl Betty & of course the great photographer Master Krystopher. Wasn't the little guy handsome? Loved Betty's blue dress. I'd still it if I had boobs!

It was so pretty minus the beadingunder the breast that I lack. Someday I’m going to wake up with beautiful boobslike one of the Kardashian chicks. Paid for and all.

The wedding was soo sooo sooo verybeautiful and the reception was to die for. It was a dream for those who likethe princess treatment like the brides on Four Weddings who spend too muchmoney to impress 3 other strange brides. The Marriott did an excellent job. Iwish Mr. & Mrs. LeJuene many years of bliss.

Polka Dots & Circles of Friendships

I'm a big social butterfly if you haven't picked up on that from my posts here. Always have been. Always will be but occasionally I retreat when life gets tough. There are times I wonder if anyone is thinking of me the way I think of others. I'm not saying I reach out to others just to get it in return but because I genuinely care about my family and friends. During the times when I don't say much or post here or comment on Facebook, I'm not looking for someone to join a pity party but I do want people to reach out let me know that they are praying for me. That my friends has happened when I least expected it from people I least expected to hear from.

A big THANK YOU to each of you who stop by to share my journey and leave lovely comments. I've met so many people via Twitter, Facebook and blogging that have sent emails, a text or email that's challenged me to smile everyday despite the bumps in the road. God has blessed me with so many extended friendships that I can't say that I'm all alone in my battles. Having your support makes celebrating the victories so much better.

Stripes & Stuff

Good news first..Aldo is repairing my wedge. Bad and good news combo...my computer reset itself on Thursday and I lost everything again. Photos. Documents. Then on Friday I turned the sucker on and it was back to normal. Yeah, technology can be a real pain (:
Remember this happened before with an external drive. I swear there is a blessing in all this stuff I am going through. No I know there is something wonderful on the otherside of all this drama in my life! GOD ain't through with me yet people. Can i get an amen? I'm glad that I've started importing my photos from Facebook to my Snapfish account. I plan to print some of them especially the ones of my grandmother.

I decided to share this outfit because the day I went to Aldo to take my broken wedge back the manager asked me to twirl around in the store because I looked sooo cute. Her words not mine (major kool aid smile). I also set the barbershop ablaze in this fit. I hope I don't sound vain but I felt really good in this look.

Disclaimer: it has been raining daily here for two weeks. We had to take these photos really quick after work before the heavens opened up again. They aren't the best but it goes to show that my life isn't perfect and anyone who thinks bloggers who share fashion pictures get it right 100% of the time just had their bubble burst, lol. My Elle MacPherson Retro Look

Once again I'd like to apologize for taking a week to post. My computer reset itself yesterday and all my photos vanished including the editing software I use. Today everything is back but all of my documents are gone. So tonight I'm leaving the computer with my Dad PWarren for a bit of tinkering in hopes that he can restore it.

I saw this look a few months ago on PeopleStyleWatch and fell in love! I must admit I headed to GAP and purchased these retro like jeans. I'm not sure if they are actually considered retro. Y'all know I'm not a detailed person when it comes to naming the styles. All I do is flip through magazines, read blogs, people watch literally and if I like it I try to recreate it.

Let me also say before I end this post that I'm so grateful that you all care enough about my journey to keep coming here. I've even gained new followers during this ify time in my life. I'm still pushing through and trying to understand somethings. I'll be honest and say I was really dealing with feelings of failure. Graduate school is one goal I hope to reach the finish line. I want to do it for me, for my son and for my mom. There have been a few days where I'd go home and feel useless because I didn't have any studying to do. Now I use this extra time to spend with KT. We are currently in day 3 of Monopoly. I'm the banker but he must do all the calculations and transactions in his head.

Tonight is TLC night. I usually eat pizza, watch Say Yes to the Dress, Four Weddings and any shows on Food Network or Gordon Ramsay on BBC. Tomorrow I'm headed to another wedding. I know, I know!! No shopping monies so I plan to remix the dress worn here. So stay tuned lovlies.

Denim on Denim

Oh the joys of a Saturday. Gives me time to blog. I promise to catch up on all the blogs I follow soon. We have a 3 day weekend and I'm all about college football which begins for my alma mater today. That calls for a happy dance. What are your plans today? Are you a football fan?

I did want to share with you what I wore to work on Friday. I really love the denim on denim look. I also added statement shoes and a necklace to glamour the look a tad bit.

Sad news about this look is the Aldo wedges are only a month old and one shoe popped. I'll be contacting customer service today and the store to see what they will do about it. I've only worn them three times!!

I know you've been wondering what I have been doing with myself and I do have an answer. I've been spending time with me. Praying. Listening. Reviewing my goals. Revising. Being still (this is the hardest task for me!).

I've also been reading novel after novel. I'm currently reading E. Lynn Harris and RM Johnson's No One in the World. Good read. I also picked up to Young Adult Novels. I don't feel that I can share my passion for reading with my students if I can't recommend appropriate books to them.

Today's library run yielded four new novels. Three books I nabbed are by authors I've never heard of: Yolonda Joe, Elfriede Jelinek and Patricia Jones. I don't usually give book reviews because I'm afraid I'll ruin it for others readers so I won'n even go there. Have you read anything by these authors?

Time to head out for snacks before the games at 3:30 PM and 8:00. My place shuts down for College Game Day! Enjoy the weekend my loves.

Another Wedding & Another Floral Dress

Two weeks ago I attended my cousin’s Kimyarra’s wedding. Unfortunately I didn’t get any really good wedding photos. I did take some myself but they came out horrible. They looked fine on the camera but when I went to upload them to Facebook, they sucked.

I did manage to get a few decent shots of KT, my mom and me wearing my cute but kinda short floral print dress (Thanks Mrs. V!). I was so anxious to wear this dress. Initially it was pulled out for church but as you can see it isn’t church attire. Keep praying for my dresses to get longer. He’s not through with me yet (wink).

So thankful for a praying mother. She was up with me at midnight praying that GOD would work through me. He did!! I scored an 18 out of 20. Yay me and Jesus J

Forged by Fire

It's Friday folks and noone is happier than I am to see today!!!! I really miss blogging more frequently. I am on my last week of class and working on a final project that's isn't coming together like I expected. As soon as I can rest my mind and regroup I'll be back rambling and begging the kid to shoot a few outfit pics a few times per week.

I've also been sitting quietly with myself trying to make sense of what has happened lately, where I am and what I need to do. Yep all about me. No blaming others.

You see work is just one throne in my flesh. My head continues to spin as I try to accept my dream of completing grad school being on hold. One would think GOD knows how badly I want to achieve this goal but for now He says nope. Right here. Continue teaching. Not a pleasant feeling at all! So my prayer has become the Serenity prayer. I need to accept what I can't change at the moment and still smile.

I'm also seeking His wisdom in being genuine everyday. I need to be real with myself and around others. Not in the manner of telling those who have an ear for gossip what's happening in my world. What I'm referring to is being able to stand tall and be the woman of faith I write about here. Sadly, I've fallen really short in this area.

I admit that has been horribly difficult. I know GOD hears our prayers. He cares about the things we go through. But what do I do when the trial doesn't get lighter? When it seems like the painful fiery darts of life are zooming all around me?

This deal at work triggered multiple spinoffs of events. My money changes and we know in this economy & being a teacher doesn't make for a baller's status. I had to tell my son I was demoted. Oh the feelings of failure I've struggled with. When you work hard on any job one of the things you expect is promotion.

A beautiful & successful woman shared with me that it maybe time to reevaluate moving on when your ability to grow in a situation has ceased. I agree 200% but the jobs as we know aren't there. I also don't want to complain when sooooo many people are in need of employment & many more join the club everyday.

I also have to make M A J O R spending adjustments. This really hurts. I have one kid & shop at thrift stores but lately I've had to say No. And there goes the feelings of failing at being a good mom. And ya'll know a fantabulous pair of stilletoes takes a day to new heights ;).

I'm receiving a lesson in forgiving myself and accepting ownership for my role in where I am today. Remember I said self reflection. Re-evluating what I want now and my future. I have also had to get over myself. Yep, life happens even to me. Being in the will of God doesn't make me exempt. Troubles don't mean I'm outside of His will.

So while I'm away there are things He's teaching me about His way, about myself and life. I hope this test brings hope and deliverance to someone else some place else who may be struggling with feelings of failure, frustration, being stuck, dreaming BIG and seeing little results so you think, financial hardship and wondering when will your moment of breakthrough & breakout arrive. Ohh and don't forget the why, why, whys that can dance around in your head. Right???

I am reminding myself and to you today, He's still on the throne! Keep pushing. I am. KT gives me a reason to laugh, to remain in the race. More importantly, I don't want to not become the Woman of God I was designed to be.

Maybe I Should...

Maybe I should invest in some casual clothes for work. I was kinda over the dressing up in hopes that a. folks would get a life and b. I would be judged by the results I produce at work rather than my $5.00 outfit that looks like I spent $150. Yep there I got that off my chest! Breathes easier.

I got away this weekend and had a nice visit with my mom and KT. I was able to sit on the front steps, enjoy the sounds of nature, spend a minute being warmed by the sun and just letting go of the past week's frustrations. Having my son back has forced me to put all the mind boggling things on the back burner. I love him for it. My son forces me to stay in the moment and enjoy it.

While we were with my mother, I told her my plans to just dress down and keep to myself. You know what they say out of sight and you are out of mind. KT being the smarty pants that he is asked me if I had enough jeans to dress down everyday. I laughed so hard at this question!!! I mean think about it. Go back through my blog posts, what would be considered dressed down in my looks minus the short shorts and girlfriend night out looks? Fail (giggles). only wear flat sandals during the summer months. I can't afford to sustain a injury to my cute toes at work.

The jeans I do own are skinny and not work wear appropriate. Sooooo I had to go back and rethink today's look for the first day back on the grind. KT even agreed to take pictures for me today after work. We are trying to decide what days I'll blog outfits during the week. I can't say enough how much life he brings to my life. I can't believe he started 7th grade today. I'm so very proud of my wise tween. I am truly blessed with a special little BIG man as I call him.

The weather was dreary and I'm still trying to learn the settings on my camera. I wish you could see the true color of the skirt and shoes. I didn't want to do office dressy so I opted for what I thought was an approachable look. I'll let you in on a secret. MY FEET WERE HURTING LIKE HELL WHEN I ARRIVED HOME. The shoes are cute but they are not made for a day of teaching. Hope you like.

Return of the Kid

Today KT returned from his summer visit with his father. It was the highlight of my day. I made him dinner and we watched back to back episodes of World Dumbiest on tru TV.

I laughed and laughed and laughed. I'm actually laughing and watching now. Just thought I should share with you that my pain has diminished because the kid who is most important to me came home today & reminded me why I don't take timeouts from life.

Thanks for every text message, email, phone call and blog comment wishing me well. If I haven't answered it isn't because I don't appreciate you thinking of me and taking the time to reach out. I just need a minute to process this hurdle and figure out a way over it. Please pray that my steps are ordered to a better place.

The Rock: Psalm 61:2-4

This morning is gloomy. The outside even matches what I'm feeling. I am having the toughest time putting one foot in front of the other. My head hurts! My stomach is churning and knotted up and y'all know I like to eat :) My ears are ringing and my body aches.

WHY?

Fear. The thoughts of what will man be allowed to do to me next. Yesterday I sat in a room full of people while an announcement was made that sent me into a surreal moment. I wished the floor had opened and swallowed me.

In this moment I realized that I had been a chasing a pipe dream that dedication, hard work and being a serious grinder would allow me to move forward in a twisted and corrupt system. I was poised. I survived the day but then I arrived home. At home I fought back tears. I've yet to have a good cry. I don't want to shed anymore tears on an educational system that profits from our children (specifically African American & Hispanic) being left behind.

I was a fool to think my love for literacy and desire to see kids healed or at least capable of moving past childhood difficulties (If you don't know I grew up in a home plagued with domestic violence), obtain an good education that will give them opportunities (we know saying just an education could be Little Johnnie being allowed to sleep in class or Juan listening to his iPod cause he's working on his producing skills) and soar to great heights. I did because of many teachers but two who are forever etched in my heart. Thank you Mrs. Phipps, wherever you are and Mrs. Gloria Norton who continues to teach HS English today.

I was insane to think dressing the part would bring me positive attention. That someone would see I could walk the walk, talk the talk and the knowledge base was there to bring change to a system that is murdering our children but also dress to impress the kids who may otherwise NEVER get a chance to see a professional young woman dressed for anything other than a video performance. FYI: I have planned to tone it wayyyyy down this year to just the bulldogs off my porch. Crazy thought, I know :(

A range of feelings are clashing and fighting to control me today. My peace is gone. My faith level is minus negative to the negative zero..at an all time low. I ask myself: What's the point of squaring my shoulders and going back into the ring to do more battle for those kids? This isn't the first beating of this caliber I've experienced. Yesterday, I lost a part of my educator self. I head out today unsure how I will function for 180 days with this dark cloud looming.

Stephen Hurd sings a song 'Lead Me to the Rock'. I'm reciting the words silently in my head. Over and over and over. "When my heart is overwhelmed Lord lead me to the rock, lead me to the rock that is higher than I".

Please pray I get there....

Blog Challenge Day 30 of 30: The Finale

This photo was taken of me on the last day of my second graduate school residency. I'm standing on the bridge that connects the Orange County Convention Center to The Peabody Hotel (this place is plush). The past four days were wonderful. I was able to gain a better understanding of how my studies can bring about social change in the future so I've returned home more driven to see my studies through to the finish line. Keep praying for my success. Without GOD I can't do it. This is a dream far bigger than I am.

The past 30+ days (cause y'all know I skipped a few) have been the typical days filled with highs and lows. Life happens, right? Instead of losing hope and allowing my faith level to dwindle, I've counted the many blessings already bestowed upon me and enjoy summerbreak (which officially ends tomorrow ...BUMMER!).

Three other significant things that happened:
1. KT flew to visit his family in Atlanta for 3 weeks. I've missed him terribly.
2. I realized that I'm still a poor decision maker in some areas. Yep, I have flaws.
3. I saw the bestie! Cold drinks, good food, cupcakes, sharing our dreams, goals, visions and insight about life knowing it is safely protected with the other.

What an ending to this challenge. Would I do it again? Probably not.

Blog Challenge Day 29 of 30: I Will Never Tire of

READING! I'm such a bookworm. I can study until 3AM, need to be at work at 8 AM and still find time to read for a few hours for pleasure before calling it quits.

Monday night I was able to take an hour long bath, sip a glass of wine and finish Song of Night by Glenville Lovell while Kem played on my iPod.

There's something about a good read that transports me on a journey in my mind that is often times indescriable unless you open the pages of the same book.

Blog Challenge Day 28 of 30: My Favorite Movie

I can watch this movie every week on dvd or television and never tire of it. I even take ti to school on half says for my students (well really for me). Russell Crowe as Maximus is the greatest story every told of a handsome Roman General. I always wished he ride into my life on a horse and rescue me. Dijmoun Hounsou isn't bad on the eyes either. This one was difficult for me. The only major difference about me last year and this year is that I wear makeup now. I've already written about this. So truthfully I'm at a loss for words on this challenge. I've grown a lot in my faith, in my decision making and even become more confident about writing.

Raw & Uncut - Here I Am

Let me be real for a minute. I haven't been writing nor finished this challenge for two reasons. 1. I'm over it. The challenges seem to be repetitive. 2. I'm having a rough time on this journey called life. I've been seeking God and being encouraged by others. I'm so grateful that I have this time off from work to really process things and deal with myself. Some folks aren't realistic and will have you to believe they are always experiencing the very best but not me! There are days when I'm dressed up and posing for the camera or at work teaching my students or I'm surrounded by people; yet inside I'm screaming and breaking dishes.

Life happens. What's really got me all worked up is having to postpone graduate school after this quarter. Pursing this degree is who I am after I'm a mother and teacher. It is what I do in the weee hours of the night. It is my dream that keeps me going daily when I want to throw in the towel and just quit. Being a graduate student is the very thing that fuels my grind. I know it was a door opened and blessed by GOD. I just can't understand right now why I'm having to wait.

Instead of allowing it to kick me all the day down, I've decided to return to the middle school classroom at church and work with the youth again to keep me busy. Why this path. Every move I've made even this degree is focused on serving youth. My childhood wasn't the best. It wasn't the worst either. It was one that allowed me to have one BIG up on some educators who fail to understand where our children are mentally when they enter a classroom. I was that child who had the worst night the day before but came to school anyway because it was a place of escape. It was a place of comfort. There were books and a teacher who cared. It was where I could get nap in and still be allowed to catch up on my homework.

Now the expectation is for a kid to pass a standardized test. We don't give a darn that Shanna's mom is dying of AIDS, that Joe's mom's fifth boyfriend beat her again to a pulp and Rosalyn had to stay home 4 of the 5 school days to help her mom out with the twins and that Erica had to go help her mom do business at the bank and post office because her parent's don't speak English. Yes I taught and currently teach these type students. But if I take more than five minutes of the school's time to listen, encourage or motivate I'm a worthless teacher. So I decided to go back to school to transition into a different career where I can be of more service to these students.

Now I'm not sure when this transition will happen and it makes me sad. Very sad!! sick to my stomach sad. I've failed sad. I know the answer isn't No. I really do trust GOD. I believe there's a plan for my life. At this moment though it happens not to be enough to keep the dark cloud away that somehow I'm again stuck. That feeling of dreams come true for others. And I hate being here. It isn't a testament to the GOD I'm always tweeting and writing about here. My mood is really contrary to HIS word.

So the cure is to tune out the negative by reading the book of Psalms, devotionals, pray, listening to Gospel music and even sharing my trials here. I know someone reading this has gone through a dark day. This isn't my first. That's why I won't quit or surrender my dream. Someone tweeted today giving up is so overrated. It really is. I may be 60 but I know that I'm going to finish the race. My mother did. That chick is my hero. She believed in me before I headed off to any college. Now years later I'm attending my 3rd one. Wow, I really do have more blessings to count than I've allowed myself to acknowledge. See all it takes is one moment of reflection to get back on track.

PLEASE Keep me in prayer. Thank you for being here and a reason to count my blessings. If you are having a tough day, week or even had a tough month or hour. Remember two things 1. the safest place in the whole wide world is in the will of GOD and 2. He'll always do everything HE promised.

Blog challenge Day 26 of 30: Lansdowne, Virginia

This was hard because I love traveling and I have a ton of photos of the adventures KT and I have enjoyed. Lately most of our outings have been staycations locally here in Florida. Nevertheless they've been fun. I don't travel much without. Two years ago my mom came to visit and I left my son during the Christmas/New Year holidays to attend a graduate school residency in Virginia.

This is when I wore no makeup. Big difference eh? It was also my first time seeing snow. Each time I would visit my Godmother in Maryland the snow would melt before I arrived or after I left it would snow. I had a fantastic trip, learned a lot and made some new friends. I must mention the scenery was great too but it was awfully cold. It was like the wind took a bitter pill and would whip the heck outtta ya! NO cold states for me unless I'm promised a free new wardrobe.

I'm proud to say I own a wool coat from Old Navy that my mom told me to purchase off a clearance rack. It was a size too big but now is the perfect winter travel coat. I layered and made it work. I keep it clean since there's no need for it here in South Florida.

I'm almost finished with this challenge. Yassss! I'm ~~getting kinda~~ bored.

Blog Challenge Day 25 of 30: Inside My Handbag

Here's today's handbag my black Steve Madden satchel. I love that the inside is pink. I haven't carried this much while on break. My straw bag has been the it bag. Plus I haven't ventured out much in the past week.

This post will probably support men declaring we have too much stuff in our handbag. What do you think? Am I packed to tight?

I have from left to right a pouch of junk. It has a mini notebook, pen, pencil, highlighter, stud earrings For an emergency, cards For the library and point cards for shopping. There's coupons, postage stamps & a eyewear cleaning cloth.

On top of the pouch is a pill box of Advil and my purse hook. I do NOT put my handbag on the floor in public places or hang it on the back of a chair. This is my second hook. My first was a high heel shoe (:

Next is my black Michael Kors wallet. The matching wallet for my MK navy blue satchel broke. Macy's replaced it with zero trouble. On top of that is an oatmeal pie. I ate it after I saw it was crumbling from hanging out in my bag.

My Kindle (I know I need a cover),makeup bag seen in a previous post, oversized shades (got these at Goidwill gor about $2) and a container of Cheez-its. I went out to study today and I always put snacks in my bag. Do you keep snacks in your purse?

And finally a few reciepts plus a McDonald's coupon for a free mango pineapple smoothie. I plan to snag it tomorrow. Have you tried them? Are they good? I'm a fan of Wendy's strawberry shakes but have yet to try the ones at McDonalds.

Blog Challenge Day 24 of 30: You Mean So Much to Me

This is the Word of GOD. I have what it says I can have. I can do what it says I can do. It allows me to walk in power not weakness, victory not defeat, health not sickness. It says I'm above not death. I'm the head and not the tail. When I open this book I am taught a principles that are life changing. [We declare this affirmation each Sunday before we partake of the message]

These are two of my favorite versions of the Bible.

I know some of you came here because I post a few outfits and you LOVE fashion as much as I do. My most important job here is sharing my faith. I am in no way flawless. This is why I can openly acknowledge what I believe. I am not demanding that you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. If you've tried it and it doesn't work for you. Fine.

I'm just serving up the truth of how I came to be what you "think" you see here on this blog. Without my relationship with GOD I wouldn't love myself enough to shop at Goodwill. No kidding! I use to think success was based on owning a home, designer duds, a fancy car and high paying job. I have none of those things.

I smile daily because I have hope found within the pages of this great book. It really does mean so much to me.

Today’s challenge is a letter to someone who has hurt me sooo here I go. I chose to write this letter to those who are still a part of my life and those who I love but no longer allow in my intimate circle. I’ve hurt friends, enemies & I've been hurt by others. Some hurts have been intentional and others just happened. May this letter bring healing to all who read it.

Dear Friend and Foe,

I want to let them know that you are given. I’ve also forgive myself for the role I played in allowing myself to be hurt by you as well as the pain I caused you to hurt me or in return for your actions. My Mother taught me a long time ago that I can’t control the actions of others. She also taught me that I am fully responsible for my reaction(s) so how I jump off better be good. This is why today I've decided to write and let you know there no need to relive the painful encounters. My decision is to bury it in the sea of forgetfulness. You know the one where Christ has thrown my past. I pray that you are being favored and blessed, that you won’t continue to hold anything against me or yourself. Life is too short to center it around pain and regrets. While the music of life is playing I hope you dance. I will.
